Professional Development for Teachers of English around Serbia
The aim
of the project that will be carried out in association with
English Language Teachers' Association
(ELTA) is to enhance the knowledge and skills of English language teachers and to enable them to move to higher-level teaching qualifications. In addition, we want to provide better understanding of teaching and learning, to create collaborative relationships, to increase motivation and promote understanding, both inside and outside the classroom.
TKT Essentials
is an exciting program supported by the
British Council
Serbia. TKT is for non-graduate or graduate teachers in need of professional development, to achieve their full potential and thus model and manage their students to become the workforce of the future. TKT Essentials aims to provide teachers with an introduction to the basic theory, associated with a communicative approach to English Language Teaching. The course structure and content is based on the syllabus of the Cambridge ESOL Teaching Knowledge Test. Students themselves will benefit from improved language skills, knowledge and a better appreciation of a multicultural environment.

Project Implementation
In February and March 2010 ELTA team will organize the venues in ten public schools for TKT implementation. Ten one-day seminars will be organized in ten different towns of Serbia and provide training for 25-35 participants.
The trainings are based on active participation of the teachers and their involvement in the program. Thus, the workshops will be executed through pair and group work, emphasizing individual contribution of the teachers and their newly acquired skills and knowledge.
